LinkedIn lingo: Optimise your Small Business for Networking Success

Don’t know whether to like or recommend, inMail or comment? With the influx of social media lexicon across all the major social platforms (which are growing by the day), we think this list of common lingo on Social Media Today is a succinct summary of what you need to know to break through the clutter.

And whilst we are on the topic, get to know how to use LinkedIn, the world’s largest online professional network, which boasts more than 350 million members. Please make sure you know the difference between a Company Page and a Profile. Your Company Page communicates your business whilst your Profile Page allows you to personally connect with clients, colleagues and industry. Professional etiquette is essential so we have created our own set of LinkedIn lingo: our four P’s to optimise both your personal and business brands.

    1. Be professional: This is not Facebook so make sure your profile photo is the goods, your comments are appropriate and relevant and do not embellish your experience.

    2. Be personal: Don’t use the default text when you send a connection invitation but ensure your greetings are all personalised, they are real people on the other end!

    3. Be proper: Proofread everything! Check your spelling – this is an online CV after all and it is a big part of your corporate reputation.

    4. Be prolific: Start conversations, share rich media, join groups and be visible, active and relevant, LinkedIn is a great place to raise your profile, just don’t overdo it.
