The glamour and fascinating evolution of fashion photography is captured in 60 iconic images drawn from the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Currently exhibiting at the State Library of New South Wales, the collection spans 100 years of fashion photography. It includes photographs from artists like Edward Steichen, Irving Penn, Cecil Beaton, Ilse Bing, and Horst P Horst, as well as modern photographers such as Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, and the contemporary work of Tim Walker.
These works feature models such as Twiggy for British Vogue, Wendy Whitelaw for American Vogue, and Lily Cole for Italian Vogue, to name a few.
Irving Penn once described his work at Vogue as the ‘selling of dreams, not clothes’.
